Cindrella Screwed Me Over

Cinderella screwed me over

Cinderella Screwed Me Over by Cindi Madsen

Rating 4 out of 5 Stars

Before I get to my review here’s the blurb found in the back of the book

“Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She’s sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she’s happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she’s culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.

Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.”

First impression of the book

First of all, the MC (Darby) listens to an audio book while on the treadmill.  Why haven’t I thought of this sooner?! It might not be grand news to some of you, but it has seriously changed my life—not that I have tried it yet or even stepped in a gym… but I can guarantee you that when I decide to start my workout routine, I will start taking this into action.

Moving along.

Is this book about my life?!  The MC is an interior designer, jaded/cynical about dating, and focused on her career. Funny enough, I would immediately tune in whenever she mentioned a project—although this book is really about her love life. Honestly, I kind of love her—even when she is too stubborn to admit that she is falling for someone.  Also, what’s not to love about her fairytale prince/failed relationship case Files?

My Review

I’m in love with Cinderella stories—be it a book or a movie.  In fact, it was the second “Cinderella” based book I’ve read in a month (the first being Suddenly Royal). After years of a not-so-glamorous love life, Darby has decided to focus on her career and forget about finding love. Sometimes, in romance novels, I don’t get enough details and stories about the MCs. However, Madsen did a great job at adding depth to Darby’s story.  Darby might have a terrible love life, but she makes up for it by having great relationships with her friends and family.  I loved reading about the important people in her life and truly getting to know who she is outside of this cynical, fairytale-hating designer… but what kind of romance novel would this be without a heartthrob trying to win her over?

That’s where Jake comes in. The entire book, Darby reels him in and then pushes him away.  Seriously Jake, you are amazing to deal with that BS.  The entire time he is very understanding of her hot and cold moods, and never gives up the chase.  He knows that there’s a connection between them and patiently waits until Darby is ready to dive into the relationship.  But will she ever let her walls down to commit to a promising relationship?  Eventually, Darby puts Jake to the ultimate test.  What will happen to their relationship if Jake fails/passes this test? I guess you’ll have to read to find out.

Would I recommend this book? Yes! Especially for women in their 20’s and 30’s.  A great indicator of this being a great book is the fact that my sister willingly picked it up and started reading it.  My sister is a very picky reader and the only commitment she has ever made to books is the Twilight series. The fact that she actually enjoyed the 8 pages she’s read so far speaks volumes for the likeability of this book.

And now the really fun part – bringing the book to life!

On a side note, I have been struggling with the idea of book blogging—it scares the crap out of me.  I had started a few book review posts but never went through with them. My fear was so big that I even debated about quitting blogging before I even found my voice.  Writing this post has helped increase my confidence because I’ve found a way to bring together my two loves: Books and Interior Design.

Until next time!

Reasons Why I Want to Have a Vanity

and why every woman should want one too!

My love for beauty and cosmetics has been reawakened thanks to my new love affair with some famous vlogs.  But what does a girl do when she wants to spend countless of hours playing with make-up and hair tools?  I’m sure as hell not going to be found doing this while standing in the bathroom! The solution? I need to get myself a vanity.

Can’t you just see yourself sitting in front of these while a) taking care of your everyday beauty routine or b) getting yourself dolled up with all of your goodies?!

A vanity, also known as a lowboy or dressing table, is just a table with some drawers for your belongings, topped off with a big mirror where you can admire your beauty. But please don’t forget, you must add a comfortable chair or stool!  I think this tradition started in Europe with high society were Ladies would often be primped and primed by their handmaidens.  But this is just me taking a wild guess, thanks to Downton Abbey.  Now let’s get started on my very shallow reasons!

Reason # 1:  I need a place to spread out and organize my beauty products

Reason # 2:  I can sit down while I’m getting ready

Reason # 3: I’ll actually be motivated to do something other than a bun to my hair!

Reason # 4:  Moisturizing routines are suddenly more glamorous

Reason # 5: I think it makes the room look pretty

Many people have different taste, so here are some different styles that might spark your interest.
