“Done is Better Than Perfect”

This is for all of you perfectionists out there!

… although it’s so hard to let go of perfectionist tendencies when you are constantly comparing your work to other students.  I got used to being the best or one of the best, but winter quarter had been a complete reality check.  Now that I have started this blog and am looking for an internship, I need to follow these words of advice more than ever.

As I was reading this book, I couldn’t help but think about how this was totally geared for a different audience–mainly mothers or mothers-to-be.  I also think that some of her advice is completely unrealistic and doesn’t take into consideration that many people are not as privileged as she is.  On the bright side, though, I was able to pull some nuggets of advice that I will definitely follow:

1. Never put your career aside because you want to have babies, just figure out what you will do once you are actually pregnant.
2. Find a mentor! But please don’t ask them to be your mentor. That would be awkward.  Instead develop a friendship.
3. Always sit at the table.  Assert yourself as a woman and always go for that raise or promotion.
4. Never be afraid to negotiate.

It’s been a while since I read the book, and don’t really remember much else.

I had the great idea of reviewing the book and this quote so I could write an awesome post.  But instead of making this a perfect post (I started writing this on April 4th), I will finally finish it and let you know that I’ll be posting all about my RT experience later today.
